Craft, Culture And Opportunity

Founded through the Initiative’s work with Afghan artisans, Zuleya supports traditional carpet-making while connecting it to new markets, homes and cultural spaces. In doing so, it helps preserve generations of carpet-making knowledge while creating sustainable employment for the artisans behind each piece. Each carpet is made by hand, using techniques shaped over centuries and materials sourced with care.

More Than A Carpet

At the heart of Zuleya is the belief that craft can create opportunity. Through FBMI, the enterprise supports artisans with employment, training and access to wider services including healthcare and education for their families.

Zuleya also gives traditional weaving a place in the present through retail, bespoke commissions, artist collaborations and cultural projects that connect heritage craft with contemporary design.

A New Chapter In The UAE

Zuleya’s story is now expanding to Abu Dhabi, where a new generation of Emirati craftswomen will learn and practise the skills behind fully handmade carpets. Opening in 2027, the Zuleya Experience Centre at MiZa will bring the full making process into view, from raw wool and natural dyes to weaving and finishing. Part production space, part exhibition and learning centre, it will open a new chapter for heritage, creativity and cultural preservation in the UAE.
